Hard to say what date. Other found relics will help. Was there CW activity in your area? Any other confirmed CW relics like bullets or buttons?

Yes there were other things found. They are posted under "today's finds".I also found a heel plate and cape hook.Kilpatrick's calvary burned the town of Barnwell about a mile from this site.

Very similar to a 'Union Gutter Back Spur' with sawtoothed rowel...

However, the spur you found, the rowel is mounted sideways instead of vertical...

Note, the rowel support post is not twisted but intentionally set at 90 degress out...

Secondly, the sawtooth rowel apprears to be larger than those of CW spurs...

This is more common with a Buermann spur design...post CW and typical of a cowboy working spur...

In my opinion, the spur is not from the CW era...

(The found spur appears to be hand forged as opposed to being a foundary casting...and the workmanship is more crude in appearance) (side mounted rowels are extremely rare then and now)
