By golly I think you got it. If I open it back up and round it out it would be about the same size as a D battery.

Andrew Turnbull was a prolific patentee holding patents for eight scales and other items such as toy cannons and planes, doorbells, bedsprings, fire escapes, a miter box, a fruit parer, a tripod and inkwell. His last patent was issued in 1919 when he was 86 years old.

The first Patent number 25473 was issued to Andrew Turnbull on September 13, 1859 and was re-issued as patent number RE5901 on June 2, 1874.
