Part of a sabot?

Looks like it could possibly be a part of the lead band/sabot from a Hotchkiss shell. Was it found in an area where CW activity took place?

I don't think it's a sabot (those were wood or paper-mache) but instead part of the driving band of a shell. Copper or other soft metal to take up the rifling and make a gas seal because the iron wouldn't. Invariably from a breech-loader.

Hotchkiss is a good bet. Nice find.
