Hi all, I dug this up and wondered what it could be. It doesn't look like anything man-made. It's heavy for its size, 1.5 ounces and is 1.25 inches wide. It also sticks to a magnet. I didn't want to throw it away since I've never found anything like it before and I've been detecting for more than 20 years. Any ideas appreciated.

Looks like iron ore to me. But, I'm NO geologist. Nice find!

I found something very similar recently in my back yard, at first glance it looked like a small canister shot, but when I dropped it, it turned out to be a encrusted nut and bolt (and a pile of crunchy rust dust)

I know it's not anything man-made. It's some kind of rock that sticks to a magnet.

Not a meteorite. I lean toward the opinion of Joe-Dirt. I have seen small bolts come out of similar looking rust balls.

Past time for more coffee.
