All Treasure Hunting
My husband and I went to a local park this afternoon for a few hours to do some MD'ing and play with the different settings on the DFX's we are still trying to learn.
After about 1/2 an hour four kids gathered around me with curiosity in their eyes (ages about 6-10). The older one said he had seen one of those on TV. The others weren't sure what I was doing. So I unplugged the headphones so they could hear all the beeps and blurps which just amazed them. Luckily just after they arrived the first thing I dug in their presence was a dime.....well it was on after that.
They all had to try it which they seemed to enjoy thouroughly. We dug up a few pull tabs, coins and bottle caps but each and every find was like a treasure chest to these little fellows.
My husband (noticing what was going on) finally worked his way over to the area I was in and planted the few coins he had found. These little guys all got to find a coin and assisted in the digging which I enjoyed just as much as they did at seeing the little faces light up once the planted coins were found.
This went on for the next two hours and I just had a great time watching these kids. We taught them the basics of MD'ing...covering the holes...keeping the trash to throw away once we were done, but the younger of the bunch took all the pull tabs, caps and some coins home with him...lol.
Anyway, we had a great time today and hopefully there will be a couple of MD'ers in the near future.

I've had that happen...it's always fun to watch their reactions. I had one kid surreptitiously planting pulltabs in front of me...I spotted him after the second one...lol.

HH!

really cool, that you took the time for them. That should be an anti drug commercial!
My daughter thought she would help me out buy planting some change one day when I was out, I too caught on when the second coin I pulled up was shinny and also a 2006. ::)

I know the feeling. Many times in the city park I get a group of young kids following me. I've taught most of them how to use my Bullseye pinpointer. I give up the serious hunting and just enjoy the kids. Lots of fun.

I also have had this experience and it's wonderful to see the joy on these little tykes faces when you help them pull a coin from the ground.

You have to love the curiosity of children. I remember when I was in grade school, I followed a guy whom was detecting a sandy play area at my school. he gave me a foreign coin which made me extremely happy. Every time I go out to hunt at my old elementary school, I bring my old detector with me so that the gallery of children can explore the hobby without worry of damaging my DFX. It is so neat to be able to share this great hobby with children.

Great story. I also carry a spare detector for that reason.

Yep, it's so cool to see their faces and eyes light up! I posted this before, but I almost always save the junk rings I find just for these occasions. If you think they get excited finding coins, just let them find one of the rings you just planted! lol

kids are okay

Most kids are cool but sometimes you get these ones that start to touch your equipment and stuff like that. I try to beat the kids to the park or go when the park is rather empty.

what a wonderful post.i love hearing the good things that happen to children.and i applaud all who take time out for our youth... keep up the good work..

You all were really nice to take the time with those kids. They are probably pestering their parents for a metal detector right this minute.
