these parfleche bags were made by my friend Butch Thunderhawk
the last one is pretty old and comes from the standing rock Sioux res in southern north dakota

these are called the flat case or folded envelope style
they were also made cylindrical and box style for different purposes
and storing different materials or food

they are made of rawhide and are real tough

Very neat Larson. I wonder why they are named in French?? I bet they display well with a western collection :thumbsup:

for example my sister in law has the last name of Decoteau (Dakota) they are Ojibwe more commonly called Chippewa cuz the white people could not pronounce ojibwe

Ahh ok. Kinda explains me. Iroquois and french then Pennsylvania Dutch landed in Tennessee. My last name is French as well. Nice art work I bet your place is a museum.
 

Really beautiful items. You have always posted incredible pics and these are sure no exception. Thanks for showing them and especially explaining them so guys like me can know there are other tribes besides the apaches and that there are pretty places besides Texas.
