I recently finished a pictorial history book and sent it to the publisher. I just received this email:

Hope you get your book published eventually.

Same problem in Europe. The shortage is pretty much international, due to a number of factors including Covid-related labour shortages. It has especially affected specialist printing papers since pulping capacity was diverted to mundane things like toilet paper which experienced ridiculous demand due to people stockpiling.

Not really sure of the whys and what fors but I just witnessed within the last few months that the guy that purchased property next door paid most of the purchase off by logging nearly 100 acres. They got the large pines, bays, and pulp pines. After hauling all the mill logs out, they quit hauling the pulp wood out because the price per trailer of pulp timber went down to $35 a load. Now there are piles of pulp wood laying out rotting on the ground. They won't be trees. Sucks but I can't blame them. Lots of work goes into a trailer full of pulp wood along with fuel costs and equipment and not even considering having to drive them to the coast to get on ships bound for China. Sure was lots of waste for being behind on manufacture...
