While my cousin was here at Ft. Bliss, Tx. attending the Sargent Major Acadamy, the SMA took the students on a field trip to Columbus, NM. This towns claim to fame is that it is the only U.S. city, in the continental U.S. to be attacked by a foriegn national.
The SMA gave the students maps of the town dating to the time of Pancho Villa raid. Here they had a "walking" history tour of the town. Listed on the maps were the locations of the barracks, stables, dining facility, enlisted barracks, officers barracks, town bank (where the vault is still standing) etc. MD'ed the stable and barracks sites. Found all kinds of relics, (horse shoes, square nails, barrel strapping, wagon parts) etc. Great day to be out. There is a "Pancho Villa State Park" at the south side of town that the museum had great displays, and the park has a panoramic viewing site that pinpoints major areas of interest in good detail.
