I don't even know where I got this. I was cleaning and found this on the floor next to a garbage bag. It is silver!!! Weird man. Another added to my collection.

the us mint used to make the panama's money for many years---its called a balboa---sweet find
 

Interesting find, tpmrcp!!! If the date on that coin is 1966, I think it may not be real silver. Wikipedia website says that in 1966, Panama changed all its silver coins to a clad based coin, like the US.

the us mint used to make their coins for them. the slots at the washington hotel casino near the canal's eastern enterance would take either coins american or panamain ---because the wieght was the same ---the value was too---based off the us dollar back then pre us base pull out. years ago we used to haul supplies to the us bases down there... the fresh mangos that we "traded" coffee to the local canal line handlers were great....Ivan
