I want to see where unesco is when " someday" someone goes after them for the clean up and ecological damage caused by Mercury on their Historic shipwrecks.

Signs and Wonders....the whole dang world has gone crazy ! What were vices are now virtues....what were perversions are now praised !
Good old honest Treasure Hunting is now considered some international crime against culture. Your permits and contracts with the various government entities mean NOTHING but to set you up as a target, and as soon as you do all the hard work and the heavy lifting is done, and you are about to reap some benefit for yourself, the alphabet-soup of international bureaucratic agencies will swoop in and seize everything ! You will consider yourself lucky just to escape their prisons !
It should be interesting to see how this bureaucratic smoke & mirror game plays out with this recent $1M Gold Find.....Will the salvors have to surrender all the booty to the state pending the state's decision on the split ? Will third parties like the Crown of Spain or Unesco file suits in US Courts ? How Long will this game last ?
Little wonder why more and more Treasure Hunters are adopting a more pragmatic and pro-active position. If the bureaucrats want to call it Piracy, then let 'em ! Let them get off their arses and do the research, and do the mapping, and spend the time and invest the money, and do the hard work ! It's Natural Law, it was Lost at Sea by the forces of God and Nature, and lay lost and forgotten for hundreds of years, and now when it is found it becomes NEW again, and rightfully belongs to the Finders !!!
And as for that official Spanish Patrimonio Cultural Bullcrap.....If you think that this is some Cultural Legacy of Your Forefathers, then you must also assume the Guilt and Shame that your precious legacy was built on Conquest, Slavery, and Genocide. There is the Blood of Indian Slaves on every Spanish Colonial Coin, starting with the 13 MILLION DEAD TAINOS. You Spaniards stole the Indian's GOLD and SILVER, than you stole their land, and then you ENSLAVED them and forced them to mine and refine more silver and gold to feed your insatiable greed, and now you get all high and mighty and claim that this is some sort of sacred legacy

The Panama National Institute of Culture (INAC) gives Investigaciones Marinas del Istmo (IMI) a concession to excavate the San Jose. IMI works all year to recover 3,000 silver coins. Then INAC confiscates the coins. Who is the bad guy here?
