I'd keep them as they are. Sounds like after being slabbed, they weren't etched and sealed.

By putting acrylic plastic on the cut face, you limit oxygen to the iron, which limits future rusting.
 

Coffey, I take my iron meteorite slices & soaked them for a minute or so in denatured or methanol to displace any moisture, then coat with a light oil ( 3 in 1) or something like that. This is after all rust has been removed and the surface repolished or etched of course. There is a guy in Arizona named Mike Miller I buy a lot of my meteorite slices from he has a great page on his web site about how to treat & preserve meteorites. I believe his website is MeteoriteFinder.com. I haven't ordered anything from him in a while.
