I am a digger of stone, bone, coral, and shell.
In all the years I have been searching, hunting, and collecting stuff, rocks and stones have been a big part of my passion. In the past years, to expand my knowledge of all things stoned, I started knapping. Last week a friend of mine who works with the state of Florida was at my house, and looked at the piles of chips in my alley. He asked me if I had ever seen this site. I cannot believe I never saw if before, although judging by the knowledge level here, some of you may have seen it before.

I only ask one thing!!! Do not share this with anybody except the people that are here. I hate to be biased, but hell - I already have friends here :)

I have to assume there is one of these for all fifty states!!

And I know they say fossil sites. But eight of them are places I dig. The other hundred are places I never heard of.

if you notice most are creeks or exposed ancient creeks/quarries or pits. There are tons of places to find small fossils and teeth, look at the kids who found the mastodon in the park in Pinellas county a couple of years ago, in a creekbed.

One time when I was a kid we went to a spring and found sharks teeth. Well it was in a state park and I guess it was fine cause we were kids. About 10 yrs ago my daughter was 6 and was learning about these type of things in school. I took her to this place to find some fossils. We were swimming and I was bringing sand up for her too look through. A Warden came and almost arrested me for it. So I learned a lesson that day. Probably cause I was with my kid he let me go and also I didnt know not to do it. So get permission before you go.

Oh yes, there are fossils everywhere in Florida. Unfortunately, most of the sites listed on that website are either closed or already thoroughly excavated. If you are ever looking into a new site, always do extensive research before hand. It really helps to join a local fossil hunting club. I would NEVER be where I am without the Tampa Bay Fossil Club. The people there are friendly, and it is always easy to find a new site for fossils or artifacts. It helps so much to learn about experiences from other people. They aren't to strict about the hunting regulations, either.
