PAINTED COIL???

should be no Problem unless you
use old Lead based paint.

You could always tape it with reflective tape or some hot orange.

if it's lead based paint it might effect it. Why not use bright colored flagging tape or just some yelloe electrical tape?

on second thought, scratch the electrical tape. That insulates and that's NOT what you want. use the flagging ribbon they use for marking property lines.

Titanium dioxide is a common paint pigment, don't know if the dioxide of the metal, in such a small amount, will affect your detector.

I would think painting the top of the coil would be NP but def not the underside or the cover it might cause a false reading best check with the tech team of your MD mfg.

Why do you need to see the coil? I place my foot near the back of the coil when I've centered the signal and move it away, then dig next to my foot.

Whatever you decide to do, test it first, just in case. If you're going to use reflective tape, put a piece on a sheet of wood, or on the ground, and pass your detector over it, just to see if there is ANY change. Same goes with paint.

it's easier to see where ya want to dig if ya put a golf ball in the center of the loop.....in deeper water anyway.... this way ya don't lose it...
