This is from Dec '08 but I thought it was pretty neat and I don't remember seeing it posted.

The owner of the coin is an anonymous collector and long-time ANACS submitter from California. He purchased the coin at a local police auction for $400, the amount he insured it for when he sent it to ANACS. It is estimated today to be worth at least $300,000.

wow, thats amazing to think of spending $400 dollars for just one penny, and then to find out that 1 cent piece is worth $300,000., kinda bizzare when you actually think about it. now where can i go to dig one up ??? ;D
 

That's amazing!

I've never even heard of this coin before. The article said 14 other patterns existed, does anyone know what the make-up of the other coins was?
 

I never found a penny that would even buy a bottle of pop!
