So I bought a minelab explorer xs for 15. Looks like new but the guy left batteries in it for a long time and they leaked. Corroded some contacts which I cleaned. The power wires to the control circuit board were broke too which I resoldered. Put new batteries in and it turns on without pushing the power button. To turn off I need to pull out the batteries. If I hold power down for 5 seconds I get a warning about low batteries. Other than that it seems to work well.
Should I replace the face on it or just pull the batteries in and out?

Cooch, Congrat's to you on the Minelab Explorer. 15.00. What a deal.

for $15 it requires you to pull the batteries

Hello Cooch,

It seems like the face plate may need to be replaced, since the on/off switch is inoperable. On FeeBay there is a listing for new face plates for around $65.00 dollars sent from the UK. These are not OEM, but rather a knock off, but still appears to solve the sticking contact problem.

Congrats on buying a Minelab for $15.00 dollars!

Regards,

Doc

helluva good deal! I could put up with a lot of oddities for a "functional" $15 explorer!
