Front says pat sept 19 1882 back says Asco or AIS or MS pretty sure it says AS thou. Any info on maker and purpose would be great thanks.

The maker is the Ames Sword Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts. Note the "A. S. CO." mark on the shackle of this similar lock made by Ames.

That is so cool I want to find an old padlock but so far only a lock keyhole cover.
