Hardy, can you see any markings on it. It will help to narrow down a time frame.

Good looking old wrought iron lever "smokehouse" lock with a fancy brass bushing. Don't see a pivot for a drop, so it may not have had one. (Many didn't.) These generally date from the mid to late 1800's. Unfortunately, unless it's marked, identifying the maker is difficult, if not impossible. The largest manufacturer of this type of lock was Mallory, Wheeler & Co. Russell & Erwin and Sargent were major players in those days, too. "Smokies" generally retail around $15-35, but I've seen a few go quite a bit higher.
