J.O.H. pin

I found this thing today; it's got the initials "J.O.H." on the top, and the number "177" on it.

It's copper and it looks as if it had a pin soldered to the back of it.

Can anyone ID it?

Thanks!

You could try looking here....good luck.
Look under "H" and passenger number 177.
Just my guess

Nah, I do genealogy, and have poured through thousands of names in ships registers and never saw anything like this. Also, if each passenger had one of these, there'd be millions of them. I don't think they cared enough about each passenger to issue one of these apiece.

Not only that, they'd have to make them on the spot to match up names and numbers.

Thanks for the try though.

Maybe an employee ID badge. Is/was there a company in your general area (assuming that's where you found it) that might have had those letters?

I think it's a hotel tag.

That's a great guess. I'm going with it!

Thanks.

Wouldn't a hotel tag have a hole in it?
I don't know. Looking at the letters, the H I thought might stand for hotel. Maybe a coat check token?

Is it a slave tag? J.O.H. would be the initials of the owner and 177 would be the slave number.
