Oviedo

There is a grassy area all around Lake Charm in Oviedo, which looks very promising, but I don't know the laws regarding hunting there. This is the old section of Oviedo and where the town started. Lots of homes from the 1800's ring the lake. Tom

You could always wade Lake Jessup but be careful, I counted over 50 gators while I was driving over the lake on the tollway last week, several 12 footers...... Lake looked like it had a lot of floating wood, then when I got on the bridge I could see all the wood had eyes....... ;D

Is there anything intresting in Oviedo, mainly the Black Hammock and Lake Jessup area?

there is a lot of old history in that area from indian to early settlers.
same with Winter Springs, along 426, Hwy 50, etc

Thats funny "logs with eyes" as Lake Jessup does have alot of BIG gators in it

the Soldiers Creek area on the south west side is good too

I used to go up there and find some neat stuff

Speaking of Soldier's Creek, the following link will take you to the Seminole County's Greenways & Natural Lands site:

http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/leisure/natland/hammock.asp

Spring Hammock Preserve (SHP) is a well-known landmark to both residents and visitors because of its oasis-like appearance in the midst of a rapidly growing urban area. History and legend of the hammock indicate that the area was once known as "Devil's Bend," and that County Road (CR) 427 was once known as "Old Bear Trail." Indians lived in Spring Hammock around 1830-1850, and legend has it that during the Fort Mellon days, Indians stole a payroll shipment and buried it somewhere along Soldier's Creek.

I have tried to research this for some time but have not been able to come up with any related information. I even called the webmaster to find out where they got this information but they couldn't provide any answers.

I live about 10 miles from Soldier's Creek - if anybody want to go stompin' around we can take turns watching out for gators!

humm names mean things --with a name like soldiers creek --its gotta be good.
