Cant say as I never did see anything like it. My first thought was it could be struck on a nickel planchet,but it appears in the pic to be copper and the letters and date are bigger than the real penny.I would take it to a reputable coin dealer and ask them.Great find!! wtg!!Keep us posted on this Im interested in what you find out.HH.

Cool find, can you show a pic of the reverse??

HH

That is very odd!

Neat find Keith!!

yea, that's a strange penny. It might be worth a fortune. Good find.

Looks like someone cleaned a nickel off and stamped a penny out of it. Look at the beveled edge and the lack of fine detail in the text/graphics and how rough the texture is. The real penny is cast under 40 tons of pressure, and the stamping is very clear and tidy. That doesn't look like a US Mint job.

is that a steel penny?.... i once heard about someone selling a steel penny for a lot of money......close to 1 mil$

Cool find! It does look like someone ground off a nickle, but where did they get the stamp??? HH, Mike

Never know, might be real collectable!

HI;
I have a penny like yours ; got it in change at the tollway. Is yours light in weight ? I almost think mine is stamped out of aluminum. Not sure if it the same date. I will try to find it. Please let me know if you find out anything about it and I will do the same, Happy Thanksgiving, Bob
