Too big for a bridle rosette, sure, but there were chest rosettes , pulling harness rosettes, generally any place the harness crosses is a good spot for one.

That is a cool looking piece for sure. It is shaped like some sort of a plate. Congrat's on a Great save and here's hoping you can get a I.D on this piece soon. Does the front of this piece seem to be stamped with some sort of letters? Does the Right side appear to have the letter W' stamped into the front, or is it just me?

First thought was pocket door piece.
