Hi Digginitdaily,
Yes, Tennessee is a land lock state, but with the Cherokee Nation located in North Carolina...trade was very important.
Cowrie Shells were used as currency (the same as glass beads).

The Thrush Cowrie Shell was located in the waters of Florida and may have been traded to the Cherokee?

It was the "Bitcoin" of the American Indians!

It definitely stuck out. I've found a couple of trade beads but this is the first shell of this kind

I found a cowrie shell with a yellow ring on it today. There are no drill marks and it's whole. I haven't researched them yet so I don't know but I figured I'd ask. Are they as common as other shells or small fossils in tn?
Nice!!! Congrats!!!
