Well today silvergurl went out to the woods again for a few hours hoping to find some silver. We walked all over the woods but I was the only one to find a coin today, its an awesome 1903 IH and its my 3rd on for the year. I also found an embossed Pepsi bottle that was still in tacked so I brought it home with me, anybody know about how old it is? It's the size of an embossed coke bottle. Sometime after I found the IH we were hunting along when I saw some yellowjackets exiting a big old log, they poured out faster than anything I have ever seen. Before I knew what was happening I was stung in my gut, I looked down while I was moving quickly away and saw that little bugger trying to sting me like 10 times (I lifted my shirt away from my skin but he kept sting it over and over). Then like a min later I felt another sting on my forearm (by this time we were a good 50-60 feet away and I thought we were out of range but nope that bugger stung me 4 or 5 times before I could brush him off). The stings weren't as bad as a bee sting but after like 5 min it hurt like a son of a gun!!!! :tongue3:

Thanks for lookin. Anybody have any plans to hunt this weekend let us know?

Sorry to hear about that man...I'll keep a lookout for old logs and remember that.

That'll teach you to leave the silver finding to the experts :laughing9: Next time point out where the silver is and we'll go retrieve them.

Nice Injun, luv that patina. Guessing his name is "Chewy"
Wonder what year that bottle is... I don't remember ever seeing that design.

Where are you guys hunting anyways, I'm out in Des Plaines. Been out hunting only 4 times this year so far.

I saw you last winter around Thanksgiving? at Golf and Harms.

Oh man ya paid the price! Hey that bottle is awesome looking, gotta be as old as me or more. And as always the coinage is sweet!

Lemme know whenever ya wanna come play this way!

Chivalry was alive and well when you diverted those angry little buggers away from silvergurl. . . 8)
When its been dry for a spell they can get a little testy.

That pepsi bottle is sweet! My guess as to age would be early 1950's. . . and that IS a nice looking IH

Congrats on the great hunt!!!

That's a great Indian, and that is by far the coolest Pepsi bottle I have ever seen!!! :o It's definitely old - but can it be as old as Tim? ;D

Sorry you got stung, Kermit. I got too close to a tree nest a few weeks ago, but they were decent enough to give me a warning. Then last week, Mark & I were deep in the woods and seperated when I heard this commotion, looked up from the hole I was working on and saw him running toward me. :o I didn't know what or who was chasing him! Turned out it was a nest in a rotten log, just like yours. Now that I think about it, I wonder if he was running away from them or trying to lead them to me instead! :-\ ;D Just to be safe, I think I'm going to go upstairs and put the Afterbite tube in my hunting bag.

No kidding - I'd be happy with the hunt if all I found was that bottle!

Nice I.H. and bottle TF..........Too bad about the bee stings....I hate bees as much as I hate spiders.

I was trudging few feet behind him, when I hear yellin for me to stay back. But I had this urge to head over, I as kinda dazed and tired, when I look forward and see the log spewing and Kerm was heading away holidng his shirt out. I got flashbacks from the movie My Girl. :tongue3: Aside from Kerm's finds I didn't find much but still had a good time, as usual.

The bottle is purty! I'd be happy to have just happen across one of those. Oh Kerm found a few .45 bullets too, one seemed to have been fired while the other couple have not. Weird.

Hope to see some of you guys this weekend. I'm due for some Silver already!:headbang: ... and maybe buy some headphones. :laughing7:

Oh man, sucks about those yellow jackets! You usually don't think of them being aggressive. At the farm site we've been hunting, there's a yellow jacket nest IN THE GROUND! I was digging 5 feet away from it and they started to all come out of the hole. Needless to say I stopped digging there and they all went right back into the hole. That kept me away from that SLQ for a week or so :)

Congrats on your IH!

The silver is out there silvergurl, keep swinging!

Congrats on the IH

About 3 years ago there was a yellow jacket's nest in a small bush in front of my house about 5 feet from the sidewalk.
My wife and daughter were walking past it when they attack them. They ran back towards the house and into the door,
they came screaming bees OMG There had to be a couple hundred. My daughter got stung 7 times and my wife got stung 3 times
I killed 26 of them in the house from them being on them...
Took them to the emergency room...My wife had and mild allergic reaction, Daughter had no reactions.
Well in the end the bush and bees got burnt up with a gallon of gasoline..

Nice. I'm picturing your whole front yard on fire and about 1000 bees squealing as they burn to death.

Glad to hear the family is ok. Just remember everyone, yellow jackets are not friendly honey making pals like the Bee Movie makes them out to be.

Thanks guys, I figured the bottle was from like the 50's so it being from 1945 is even better. Yea we were out in Harm's woods today just trying to find an un hunted place but it wasn't meant to be. When I first saw them I thought they were bee's and I yelled at Mary because she is allergic to them.

Wow - sorry to hear about the bees.

I used to frequently hang out at Harms woods throughout the late 60's to 70's.
There's probably tons of stuff still there even though it's been hit for decades.
Now that I have the time, I'll have to go back there again to do some detecting.

I can remember finding old household stuff and a foundation (before I was into detecting) but this was the area that's now occupied by the courthouse, east of Harms. I would imagine there's stuff along the river if you've ventured down there, and I know the makeshift ball fields had been basically undisturbed since day one. There was one in the grove closest to Golf, and I think another in the next grove north.

I haven't been there in a few years - do they still have the hand operated pumps for water?

Great finds (except for the bees!)

oh... and I imagine if you happen to find Helen Brach - that would definitely make the banner!
She supposedly had ties to the stables near by and had invested into some racing horses of dubious value.

All of the obvious places there have been pounded for years and I have only had luck out in the deep woods but its only been a few keepers here and there. The pumps were removed but the concrete pads are still there (I found my 1st silver ring this year by one). Out in the woods I am always finding old Boy Scout buttons, shotgun brass and stuff but the place is HUGE and would take an army of MD'rs to cover it!!!! The weird thing is you could go to any part of that place and get thousands of deep iron hits almost like people just went walking with bags full of nails and tossed them everywhere years ago, also I am always digging large base ball size hot rocks that you would swear were gonna be deep silver quarters. If you want to go let me know and we can try and find a hot spot together. :icon_pirat:
