Your small coin, dug in Mexico, saying "Emperador Maximiliano" on it, also shows a droop-winged eagle with the (French) crown above. It is from the 6-year reign of Emperor Maximilian 1, the only monarch of the 2nd Mexican Empire. In 1861, due to massive unpaid financial debts to several European governments, troops from France, Spain, and Britain deposed the Mexican Republic's government, with France taking the opportunity to create the 2nd Mexican Empire. France installed Archduke Maximilian (of Austria) as the emperor. He reigned from 1861 into 1867, when he was defeated by Mexican Republic forces (under Benito Juarez) after France withdrew its troops and support.

Sidenote:
Maximilian welcomed many thousands of Confederate refugees fleeing the yankee Occupation in 1865. Most of them returned to the US after Maximilian fell.

Thank you for the history of this coin. Is it worth keeping or just goes in the scrap copper tub? ( If its copper that is)

Concidering that it only has a 6 year run from the mid 1800's.
I would say it's definatly a keeper.
Almost any pre 1900 coin I find is a keeper if I can make anything out on the coin.
and your coin is in great shape.
I wouyld love to find one...
Congrats

That's good to know. Its so dry here most of the stuff I find is not rusty or decade. I just need to get a better Detector. I'm using a Bounty Hunter Pro. I need to get a real machine so i can do more field work. Most of my detecting is in the sea with my XPointer. ( Love that thing and land and water)
Thanks for the Info...
