My 6 year old son and I have been out twice now for our first experience metal detecting. We found something interesting for us to research and figure out what it is.

Our digging ID'd this as a tool room ID check tag that was probably used in one of the shipyards here in Tidewater, VA. The home that was there was probably built in the 1830's and torn down in the 1940's.

Very exciting for us. Tag small.jpg

Brought the tag into work and shot it with our metal analyzer. 80% copper 20% zinc.

Wow, you guys are off to a great start! Very cool tag. And expect to generate a lot of envy for having a metal analyzer. I'd love to have one of those. HH

Yeah, that goes in the cool category.

Now that's a cool first find and welcome.way to go.

Congrats! A great start and bound to get better! Love the history of the hunt....

Great finds!! My dad took me out detecting at 7. Still can't put it down. Happy hunting!

Wow, that is a great stepping stone into a hobby full of surprises and hidden treasures. Actually, I think it's more of a lifestyle! I think my first finds were a roofing nail and a clad penny. You are off to one heck of a start! Kept up the great work.

HH and great digs ahead

Ooops, I didn't mean that we turned on the detector and found this. :)
We dug up 40 pounds of plow blades alone during the two days.

This was just the first cool thing. Although to a six year the excitement and mystery/possibilities start at every single buzz. It is cool watching my boy get excited about a 4 pound hunk of iron plow, to him it is an awesome huge piece of metal.
