Relic Hunting
On the last day of 2011 we hunted a new site and found a few bullets and a couple buttons. Today was our first hunt of 2012 and we went back to see if we could find more. Making the trip from North Carolina was Mike (Woodland Detectors) and Ken Whitley who both brought their Minelab GPX machines to see if they could find some deep targets, Guy (Tnrelicman) and his son Hunter and myself. Our other partner Sham (Shamborelics) had to go to Alabama and could not make the trip. We went to the newest site first and hunted for a short time. The fields were full of horseshoe nails and other trash and was driving the GPX machines crazy. I did manage to find a very nice Spencer bullet with part of the brass casing still attached. (I am guessing it is a Spencer anyways) and Ken found one as well. I also found a pistol bullet as well. I believe it is a .36 caliber. I also found what appears to be a button of some sorts but may be more modern. We then decided to go back to our other campsite that we have been hunting for quite some time. This site is deep in the woods and you get a great workout hunting it. Guy found a fired 3 ringer and I found a couple more modern bullets and a large piece of camp lead. Ken found the find of the day. It looks like a very nice puppy paw buckle with the arrowhead hooks. Again this is Ken's find and I am posting for him.

Thanks Doug. I always have fun whether I find anything or not. Just to be out with friends is priceless.

Thanks Quindy. Weather was great. I was worried at first because it rained most of the way from my house to there.

Thanks. Weather was great as the rain held off and went around us.

Nice hunt! Too bad that plate wasn't attached to those hooks :BangHead: . Cool finds none the less :icon_thumleft:

Thanks. That was the second of those taken out of there. That complete plate is there somewhere.

Thanks Bill. Are you going to DIV or Relic Rescue?

Thanks Mike. It was good to hunt with you guys again too. I was so happy for Ken to have such a great find as I know he drove further than you did. You are right about two of those being found in there. I just know there has to be some complete plates in there. Especially after all the bullets, buttons, bayonet and rifle parts we have found in there. But boy those woods are really hard to hunt in. And I am glad I am not the only one getting lost in there, lol. :help:

Thanks Quindy for the email. Appears this was an actual buckle. The swivel is still a mystery. Researching finds is what makes this hobby so much fun.

So is this US or CS? I am still stumped with the swivel as most I see are one piece.
