On Wednesday the evening weather was nice so Sue and went for a joy ride to Buttonwood Farm in Griswold, Ct. for ice cream sundaes. This place opened in 1975 and is a very busy place in the summer. Their ice cream is very good and they have a lot of different flavors. After the ice cream we took the back roads down to the quaint little town of Mystic, Ct. which is very active in the summer with tourists. We strolled the town enjoying the night air and relaxed on a bench right at the water. The Mystic River runs right through the middle of the town and a drawbridge is there to open up so that boats can pass through. The drawbridge was erected in 1920 and weighs 660 tons. Later in the evening we went to Mystic Pizza for pizza and drinks before heading home. I had an ale appropriately called "Mystic River Ale". This particular pizza house was the inspiration for the movie "Mystic Pizza" starring Julia Roberts and many of the scenes from the movie were filmed in Mystic and the surrounding area. The two "senior citizens" are of course, Sue and I as we started to walk the street. Quite honestly we hated to go home. Cool looking place to get away. I saw that movie when it came out.

Great day of relaxation, congrats! :occasion14:

You didn't go to the seaport museum? Great place if you like maritime history. I must have been to the seaport twenty times since the early 1960s. I have spent a lot of time in the Mystic area, lots of early American history around. My favorite seafood restaurant is Ford's Lobsters in Noank the next village down the coast and Stonington the next town up the coast is a really nice old New England picturesque town too. You folks are lucky to live nearby, it's a two hour plus ride there for me. Looks like you had a great day with fine summer weather. Just wondering if you have done any detecting down along the coast?

We've been to the Seaport before so it wasn't in our plans. We just wanted to have a slow, laid back visit to the downtown. We've also been to Noank and Stonington many times. Can't say I'm familiar with Ford's lobsters but I know of Abbott's in Noank. As for detecting we've hunted just about every town in Connecticut at one time or other.

Wow, you must have some really cool finds, lots of history there!! I have hunted a little in CT but a lot more along the CT/NY border on the NY side and good stuff was found in that colonial area too. Ford's is only about seven or eight years old, is better when it's inside before and after summer when they serve outside and the menu is smaller. BYOB It is on the same road as Abbott's but right close to town. Really fresh good seafood.
