Took the Grandkids to visit the largest mine in Orogrande this weekend. Large tailing piles, grand vistas and obviously lots of works. The "Iron Queen" is situated atop one of the many mountains that abound in the Jarilla's. A large 'cut' that is visible from Hwy 54, 4 miles away attests to the magnitude and size of this operation. Fun visit and good memories for the kids. Thanks for looking and HH. Orogrande

Wow, that looks like a great time! I would probably get kicked out of the house when I came home with a truck load of rocks! Thanks for sharing-

I love places like that. . . they allow you to catch a glimpse of someone's dream from the past.

How close are these pictures to Alamogordo, NM? My parents live in Las Cruces....and I thought I noticed the Oregon Mountains in the pictures. Nice Pics!! I remember walking through all the old mines growing up in New Mexico. Mostly around the Caballo mountains, and some in the Gila near Hillsboro.

Outstanding, wish I were there. Thanks, now I can dream. Gnewt
