Ornate ring with flowers and a little loop for a necklace or something...

My buddy found this thing which he thought was an earring, he accidentally dropped it and it broke right in half it seems kind of fragile but it's also pretty heavy, it's not magnetic and it has flowers engraved all around the outside. there's a little loop at the top like it was an earring or a piece of jewelry, but the loop appears to be angled in the wrong direction for it to be anything like that. Any clue?
