Ornate Door Knob?

I dug this item today on an old house lot from the late 1800's. It appears to be brass, 5 3/4 inches in circumference, 1 3/4 inches across, and 7/8 inch thick. Very ornate, and heavy for its size. I would appreciate any ideas or information on this item. Here are some pictures, and I used a US quarter for size comparison.

sure ain't the kind of door knob you'd pick up a walmart these days. I guess just plain old functionally wasn't good enough for the folks back in the days that came from. Cool find. I like it.

It could be off an Old brass bed they were very ornate also, A Bed Post or something ? even a knob from a piece of furniture??? the possibility's are endless Cool as all heck though :skullflag:
