I am new to the sport and looking for someone or a gourp to go out with. I havent purchased my equipment yet so if you have any suggestions, i would appreciate the help.

Welcome! Be sure you don't go detecting in Cook Co. parks. They put a ban on it last year and will fine you and take away your gear if caught. Also a tip for research - don't talk to office working desk jockies when trying to find out if a place is off limits. Search online for park rules or city ordinances. Go to the site and look for a sign with park rules... and if you ask anyone, ask a park worker that you see there. I have never had a problem with park workers when showing up at a site. I always introduce myself, chat for a few minutes and then casually say something like, "you guys don't mind if I detect here for a little bit do you?" Keep your trash in your pouch to show anyone who questions you. Don't ever leave junk in the ground. Be sure you learn proper technique for making plugs. Search for the metal detecting code of ethics and you will not have any problems with other detectorists. Happy Hunting.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to find a club closer to hime or fimd a cub with a member or two that were closer to me. Unfortunately i am working Sunday and i cant attend the meeting.
