Found on old homesite in north central Georgia. Have found flat buttons here so believe the time frame is 1830’s on. Said item is slightly smaller than a buffalo nickel and slightly thinner( maybe wear). Originally thought It was a shield nickel but the date I thought I saw didn’t make sense. Any ideas or suggestions

Put another coin by it for the picture. Did it ring up as silver or nickel on your machine ?

A candidate coin: Mexican 5 centavos, copper-nickel coins from the periods 1936 to 1942 and 1950-1969 (among others) weigh 4 grams and have a diameter of 20.5mm.
Don in SoCal
Thanks. Wondering if it could be confederate coin but cannot find site that gives diameters of confederate coins

There are no confederate coins that circulated. They made the “confederate half dollar”, but only made four of them. They paid an engraver in the north to make “confederate penny” dies, which he did, but he chickened out and never delivered them. So, except for the four halves, there is no such thing as confederate coins.
