Bring your suction dredges and other mining equipment to the Grants Pass Courthouse Lawn

Currently, Waldo and Galice Mining Districts, both located in Josephine County, Oregon are working together on several fronts. Both districts are in the current lawsuit against Oregon senate bill 838, which takes away the use of any motorized mining equipment for placer mining, right down to battery operated equipment. They have also jointly organized a demonstration in Grants Pass for September 24th at the Josephine County Courthouse for a day long free event.
We ask that all who attend this demonstration to bring your mining equipment to display, and to actively talk with the attending public in a courteous fashion about the benefits of suction dredging in relation to the environment, (lead removal, trash removal) and the economic stability that this industry provides our county. As the poorest county in the state, by removing this industry only adds to our economic deficit. It is estimated that $10-$30 MILLION dollars a year is brought in by miners with claims in Josephine county by way of shopping locally (gas, groceries, equipment, repairs, restaurants, etc).
We invite all members of the mining community to come together and unite for a day, network with other like minded individuals, show off your creativity and ingenuity, and celebrate what mining means to you. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase with all proceeds going directly to our legal fund to stop SB 838. Grand Prize will be a ½ lb troy* of local Josephine County placer gold, donated generously by all the local miners of the area, Armadillo Mining Shop, Galice and Waldo Mining Districts, as well as several sponsors.
