Opinions on trade.

What the heck, Someone has to have an opinion.

I've found a few things, couple dozen square nails, a WWII combat knife, various clad coins and lots and lots of junk. The reason for the trade isn't about not liking the ace its more about upgrading. As you said the Eldorado cost just over twice as much and for $150 plus the $200 for the ACE I am still getting it for $100 or more less than retail. I was hoping for a touch more feedback and imagine that in the next couple days I will get it. Thanks for the reply D.

I've never had the eldorado, but in reviews i've read it sounds good. Like you said , it's a trade up and for less. If you get the warranty along with it and a tesoro appeals to you. I'd say go for it.

A bit of advice when trying to determine value on detectors. There are a lot of detecting forums with classifieds. Just go to them and engage search engine and then type the name of the detector in the space provided. It took a few minutes to discover that used Eldorados were being offered from $235 to $265 this year(some with an extra coil). This is reasonable as new ones go for $375. The search engine also revealed? that you can obtain a good used Ace 250 for about $175.
A lot of new folks are so anxious to buy a new detector that they fail to understand that you can buy a used good mid range detector for a low end price.
Are Tesoro's warranty's transferrable?

Hope this helps
George

Yes the Tesoro is certified "as new" from tesoro so the lifetime warranty will come along with this detector.
As far as the other questions, Yes the ACE250 is a good machine, it doesn't really feel like a toy and the pin point is right on if you read the hints and practice.
As bakergeol said I jumped in too quickly I think and didn't realize I could get a better used machine for the money. I wanted a good detector that was going to fit me into the future and just don't feel like the ACE is that machine for me.

Some other things to consider.... the Eldorado has a manual ground balance which can be a god send in difficult soils / areas of high mineralization.? Also, you should consider what coils are available for both machines.

Users of the Tesoro machines (and the Eldorado) seem to be highly loyal to them.? They are very popular with the relic hunters because of their ability to find deep targets.

You might want to read the Tesoro forum at their website. (Or follow this link).

I used Tesoro machines for years and years and they were some of the best machines I ever used.
That said, I've never used the one your talking about.. ( actually I owned at one time, the original Elderado-15 years ago)
As far as field tests go, well I've never read one that did not make the machine in question, sound like the best
one on the market.... these field tests should be taken with a grain of salt....
but I believe that the Tesoro would be a much better over all machine than the Ace... The warrantee does not transfer, so if it
comes with a new machine warrantee card the Warrantee comes with it, if it does not, then I think there is a 5 year coverage then parts and labor... check on these if your interested.. but I don't know any manufacturer that tranfers a lifetime warrantee
to any new buyer of a used item...

Being an X-5 user who does not use a Tesoro I may be booed here(the old detector wars thing). My personal opinion on why more new folks haven't started out with low and mid priced Tesoros is that they are not in the Kellyco catalog.

I have never seen a bad field test report on any machine in any of the treasure magazines. They are not going to upset their advertisers. You simply have to read between the lines. The worst review would be "Great for competitive hunts"-(translation- As you are not going to find coins below 5", you don't have to worry about those pesky deep coin signals). or "Great for the kids"-(translation-You would never live it down if your detecting friends caught you using this piece of crap in the park). My favorite is "Makes a great backup detector"-(translation- This is true if you are still using a 1970's BFO detector).

Hi Orygun, I currently own an Explorer XS and after reading all the hype I considered buying a Fisher CZ-3D or a Tesoro Vaquero or Deleon(metered). I have been reading and asking questions for a week trying to decide which to get. It's like taking a golf lesson. 10 pro teachers tell you 10 different things to fix your slice. Each detector manufacturer says his goes the deepest, descriminates the best, finds the most, blah, blah, blah. After many phone calls and emails I went to my local dealer and he sells mainly Whites and he said I couldn't do any better. He sneered at Tesoro and didn't have much to say about Fisher but he also didn't try to sell me a White's. I have researched till I decided to hell with it. I'll just keep what I have. I do all right with it. I was just hoping I could work less and find more. I wish someone independent like Consumers Report would do a study, then maybe all the BS would be left out of the equation. I have never seen a bad review on any detector, not matter how expensive or cheap. They all find something in the "hunted out parks". I love this hobby, I just don't like the hype on the machines.

Try this site www.metaldetectorreviews.net Reviews are left there by actual owners of their respective machine. Not an employee of a detector co. or magazine. All the major brands are listed and all the models of each. HH

? ? ? ? ?I hear what your saying.? It's much like a ford fan or a chevy fan. I agree their going to be biased. But between the ford and chevy fan or the mega buck auto maker and their mega buck commercials. It seems to me, the lesser of the two evils, would be the biased fan. And left? to me to take info from them, and to use my own reasoning, to even it up. If we can't gather info from one side or the other, and be able to use some small fraction of it to our benefit. Then we are totally alone, and on our own.

I studied that review site during my week of investigating. I came away more confused than ever. Just about everyone who owned that machine said it was great or the best or the deepest. A few people sounded off with negatives, which was actually nice to see.

Do your own research at brand forum sites or a non manufacturer sponsored forum. Go into the search mode and retrieve data from the archives about the detector in question. Usually after the "hype" phase we start getting back accurate feedback. Folks who keep abreast of detector technology usually have a small library of good posts about different machines from various forum sites. If you want to learn about your machine take the time to go back to the archives and read, read, read. You will find thru the archives that some of your questions have already been asked and answered.

The problem is that there is an issue about posting information from other metal detecting forums . As their forum name may appear this is like giving advertising to the competition.? For example I could have helped Sandnsea49 out by giving him a good? reference to a CZ-3D,Explorer and CS in ground comparison test but it was from another forum site(Is there bias here in this test-yes learn to live with it). I don't know what TreasureNet rules are on this but in other forums this would have been frowned upon or the name deleted .

For high end machines there is simply no #1 as they all are great detectors and peoples opinions and conditions vary. Machine bias occurs in newbies to advanced multi-detector owners.? Points which some people find detrimental about a detector are either not viewed as such by others or thru experience they have learned to cope or work around them. Machines that do well in one area may do poorly in another. That is why serious addicts may have an Explorer, CZ-3d and a new Vaquero among others(Gotta have a back up for my backup).

Some questions are easy for me. If a newbie asked me what detector gives the best performance for around $300 in non mineralized ground I have my own BIAS from what I have gathered from feedback from users from several forums. Just putting a money limit without an digital screen requirement narrows down the field. However, what is the best high end detector where cost is not a factor for you well thats a tough one. It simply would depend on your personal tastes(or bias), conditions and uses.

My bias is always toward new technology and? I am always looking for whats new out there. So new technology such as George Paynes's new Cointrax chip for the new T.Bs or? Eric Foster's new Goldscan 5 with tone ID? will alway spark my interest.?

George

Yep That's what i was saying. As far as i can see. In helping you decide which detector or product to purchase. Unless you stayed at Holiday Inn last night. And now know all there is to know about detectors, never having seen one before. Theres 2 sources of information. The sellers and the buyers. Biased buyers, and definitly biased sellers.
