Just wondering about the Fisher F5. It seems like a good machine with a great interface. You can watch the ground conditions change and you can ground balance accordingly. The display seems to be very user friendly and from watching demos on Youtube, it seems like you can pick it up and use it right away. Any opinions out there regarding depth and other features.

One thing that did bother me about it. I read that the display screen is fragile and one user in a review stated he put a piece of clear plastic over it so that it won't scratch or get damaged. In a another review that I watched the demonstrator put his finger on the screen and you can literally see it become indented. The plastic did seem fragile. Besides that, it appeared like a good machine....

So if anyone out there is familiar with this detector or have used it, any info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

The F5 is a very nice machine. The knobs give you a lot of options, and the screen view has some of the largest numbers for those that have a time reading small print. It has a threshold, constant ground readings, great ground balance capabilites and is easy to use.

I'm a dealer, but my brother who has been detecting for 40 years really likes his F5.

Fun, coinshooter with a user friendly interface. It's not a depth monster but will hit to about 8" on coins, the ID will start get inaccurate after 6" or so. Retune is fast enough to give it an edge in trashy places. Very tunable to any hunting scenario. I keep my screen covered have not had any issues with it. I did send it in to Fisher for service, turned out to be a bad threshold pot, service was quick and I was not charged even though it was out of warranty. Also, the guys at Metal Detecting Stuff are great to deal with, didn't get my F5 from them, but have purchased several other items.
