I think I finally found a speared bison nickel CRHing. Here are a few pics. I'd like to hear some opinions. First I thought it was just a scratch but under the loupe it looked like it had extra material rather than a gouge.
I've done a little reading and I guess this die crack variety would be referred to as the "wounded bison" or "speared in the rear" type. The actual "speared bison" has the die crack running completely through the bisons mid section. I read that some feel these are worthless errors and such that is why I'm looking for opinions.
It looks like the pictures I saw when I did research on this error. I think you have found one. I agree that it is not the standard one that goes through the middle but there was a couple of varieties with spears going through the rump or rear leg. Nice find!
