Cool shot, Jeff! From Penn Pilot?

What is the date and time of day on the photo?

The lack of large trucks and no "big top" lead me to believe it is a volunteer fire company carnival.

Will you tell where it is? Someone with access to one of those historic newspaper sites could probably find a reference.

Either way, if it is still an open field, it is worth swinging over it.

July 3, 1959 was a Friday (and I was 3 months old). I'm still thinking this is a fire company canrnival set up. The pic may be from early in the morning. You should be able to get some idea of time from the shaows and the east/west orientation of the site.

I'm guessing it wasn't a very productive hunt...

Curiously, I live in Herndon, VA - Named for Captain Herndon of the S.S. Central America who went down with his ship off the coast of North Carolina in 1857 along with a HUGE shipment of gold from San Francisco. It was found in 1987. I'm sure you know the story...

DCMatt

finds are in todays finds.

Great spot for somone more Local Then I

i'd say 50/50 on the trash to
coin Ratio in most spots,
Edges are very trashy.

But you need to like digging alot of Deep
rotted Zinc cents
to get at the Deep
copper cents & Dimes.

I Have no problem sharing site
locations
as Long as i get to hunt them
at least once first, When I Do
the research.
