Opinion Poll

I have had experience with the Pioneer 202 which is the same as the QDII. I found it to be a very good machine. Go to www.detecting.com for user reviews on all of these models. They all are good machines. I'm partial to the QDII/P202 since I have it but the detecting.com page will tell you a lot more about the other machines. HH

my opinion would be to go with a garrett ace 250, but since we are talking about bounty hunters, i would either go with the quick draw or the land star. although at first glance it doesnt look like there is all that much difference between the two..........besides about $120.

I own the Quick Draw II. Got it through a mail order catalog and paid about $50 more but I get to use it now. I have just been looking around my property at the moment and have found "stuff" from the farm that use to be here. I have found some coins (nothing old, yet). I find it to be accurate on it's coin ID and in the depth. Once you go out a few times and set the controls to filter out the trash it is almost a "set it and forget it" thing. Just my 2 "wheaties".

In my opinion pay the extra cash&buy a whites.I just bought the mxt&it works fine.Good luck;D

But then this will depend on the hunt sites in your area. I have upgraded to a MXT.

The best deals right now.
The BH Discovery 3300 $200 + tax, check local radio shack for availability

The Garrett 250 Ace $213 free shipping plus 5 free gifts.

Was not impressed with a BH2000 I've had for several years. Dug lots of nails and trash so I set it aside. Then this year started playing with it in our garden before planting- keep indicting something about 4foot square. Dug down and lo and behold a n old piece of tin- mangled from years of tilling over it. No value, just interesting, then I found a 1902 IH, same area. Now I started getting detecting fever!! Cheap detector=disinterest!!
Started looking seriously at buying another maybe better detector .Money of course was a stumbling block- but wanted a detector I would be happy with. Was looking at an Ace 250 when I noticed The discovery 3300 at great discount so I bought one.
I'm happy to say - Detecting has improved greatly. I'm sure its not in the same league as more expensive detectors but I found My first Mercury dime at 4'' and a wheatie . Also an old flattened toy train car at about 8" which I stopped digging for until My wife encouraged Me to continue. Imagine My surprise!!
So far I've only had time to try it on My property( a 100 yr old farmstead)but My confidence level with every find continues to improve. Toys, shells, gold plated buckle, etc keep popping at depths from 2'-8''
I guess I'm happy- not rich, but enjoying this hobby!!
BYW- pinpointing and ground balance appear to work great!!

ooops- 2" not 2' --duhhhh

OK- now I see the "modify"--

The Ace250, lets face it is a cheap detector by a major brand........it lacks alot of features.....The RS 3300 has more features.......it's just a bastard brand........I think you did right in not getting the the 250

IF you can get a detector that has a built in pinpointer that will save you SO much digging. I started out with a Radio Shack 2200 and it drove me nuts with the digging and having to swing the whole detector over my holes looking for the item. I ended up making a hand held pinpointer. I used that 2200 for almost 2 weeks in my yard and got 3-4 bucks of change and almost a full shoebox of trash items. I upgraded to a 3300 and it is a lot easier to use and I found a lot more with it and a lot less trash. I havn't been keeping an exact count but I am adveraging almost 2 dollars per hour not counting some jewery and 7 silver coins.
