Opinion on Littleton Coin Company

They are a reputable company but very high priced.

I have been to Littleton Coin Company. I went a few years back to see what I could do on the "sell" end of the deal. There offers were VERY LOW.
I tried out there " Get coins in the mail" to see what they had to offer. Over priced common stuff.

Littleton is about an hour from me. I buy and sell $10,000+/- worth of coins a year and I wont do business with them.

My honest 2 cents. VPR

"Over priced common stuff."

about sums it up.

You can usually get a good deal with their adds.

I bought a Silver Eagle off them for $5.00 once when an OZ was around $10.00

but they sent approvals along which were overpriced.

I just sent the approvals back with a note
if they send any more I'll consider them a Gift as per
USPS Law & Canceled.

They made sure to not take their time getting around to Canceling the Approval Service.

I purchased many silver 10oz bars from them several years ago several times and had no problems.
Its like anything else, you need to know what your buying and the daily rate when it comes to metals.
If you do a google search for wilver, you wont believe the crooks you can run into.
Do you home work.
I also had some decent experinaces with Austin coins - several years ago.
Im not associated with any type commercial dealer any more, learned a lot of lessons on the way of learning to invest in silver and gold,l and have done extremely well.
I now have a retired broker I work with that I trust big time.
Its a great time to invest for the silver content, not sure on the old stuff, I used too, but lost confidence.

also.........
I didnt care for their coins on approval program.
Prices were to high and you still have to figure the postage into the deal.
Alwasy watch out for the shipping charges, freight and processing is usually marked up
Just my opinion, hope this helps, been doing this for awhile
Never buy the stuff on TV

I agree...waaaay overpriced. I dealt with them briefly, got a good deal at first then the coins on approval started arriving...overpriced and YOU have to pay for shipping to return them. I cancelled and then called them to say why, I told them they were not competitive in their pricing and they told me their prices are higher because they have a large inventory of coins and have whatever I may want. So basically they wanted me to pay extra because they stock alot of coins I don;t want.
Shop around and you can do alot better than them.

I do a lot of buying & selling collectibles, and I think that is high price explanation #1 in the sales pitch handbook. I had a dealer explain to me that they had THIS store and had to pay the lease etc.etc. and that they had an overhead so they were over priced. I let her know that that excuse was very offensive to me Because she felt I was stupid enough to feel I needed to pay her overhead, and when I hit the door her mouth was still hanging open. I've received this same kind of response 3 or 4 times now.

I guess were supposed to just accept this and follow along like the rest of the herd. They think :D

Try hitting a few flea markets in your area, pick their brains and ask questions
It took a long time for me to find a retired guy that deals in coins at the flea market as a hobby and was extremely honest / forth comming, hes not looking to make a killing, just an honest buck to at least pay for his space.
It gets him out of the house for half a day on a sunday
These guys also dont usually show the good stuff, you have to ask if they have anything else to offer
you can find silver deals at the market for 1.00 - 2.00 over spot
deal with them a couple times and gain their trust and they will love to work with you
weather your selling or buying
I dont do the online or store fronts anymore

Bradyboy....great advice, the key is finding someone you know and trust and knows you....ALL dealers are in it to at least make a little profit, the key is finding someone like you mentioned that isn;t in it to make a killing and try to screw you.

ya,
I got real lucky finding this guy at a local flea market.
the key is to gain a relationship and trust.
Once they find out your serious and enjoy the intelligent and educated conversation, they will let you in on deals and you can get to a point where you can trust and have confidence in your purchase.
Its taken a very very long time to find a guy like this.
Keep in mind that i have observed many many flea market dealers, most are out to max out the deal.
ask questions, get their prices and go home and look at the prices in the red book.

Bradyboy..you sure did get lucky....its great advice saying to look for someone like that, finding them is another story though for they are few and far between especially at flea markets. Hope you keep the business relationship going with this guy for as you stated, knowing someone like that can be VERY beneficial and you'll come across some sweet deals otherwise you;d never hear about.

Thanks
I can hook you up with this guy if you email me
Not sure if he will work with you
He accepts cash only
let me know
[email protected]
If I hear from you, or anyone else, i will first ask him permission to give out his phone number
In the winter he is in Fl / summer in NY
very very trusting guy, real nice guy

Bradyboy...thanks very much for the generous offer!! However most of my coin collection additions must be dug out of the ground, my kids needs get most, if not all of my extra cash so money spent on myself is very limited, if not non-existent (and they are 3 and 4 so their needs(wants) are gonna just get more expensive as they get older.. ::) )... ;D I greatly appreciate your offering though!!!

I agree they are overpriced, I dealt with them back in the 70's, new to coin collecting. A little wiser now. Had some good deals on e-bay though, contrary what others think of them.
