For those of you that are having trouble with bank fees and for the others that are having trouble ordering coins, open a credit union account. The most important thing to remember is that you're not just a member there, YOU OWN THE CREDIT UNION. Since you own the credit union, they are more than willing to do anything to keep your business. Also, most, if not all credit unions are not-for-profit so they don't even care if it "costs" money for them to order a box or two. So if you're having trouble with a bank, find a credit union!

The credit union I just joined is the one with the coin counters in the lobby. Free to all members. But they can not order half dollars for me. So they receive them.

I'm sure some, if not most are good. Here's what the fine print says on a mailer I got from the biggest credit union in Vegas (to open a checking account):

"Account holders with established direct deposit are subject to a $40 application cost, $50 application for those without direct deposit. A minimum deposit of $20.00 is required to open a checking account. A monthy fee of $15.00 will be assessed until the account has been properly managed for twelve consecutive months. Other terms and conditions apply, ask for details."

The big seller on this mailer is pay day advances. Pay day loan centers have been cropping up like 7-11's over the last couple of years in Vegas and it looks like the financial institutions want to get in on it.

Good point and advice, The credit unions I am a member of have treated me very well. But like Cat said, only good for dumping on this end from what I have found.

The one i joined said you only need five dollars to open an account but you had to be an employee of a huge list of companies. Which I am not since I am self employed. (another term for unemployed... LOL) Or you could be the mother of an employee or sister or brother or daughter or son or cousin of an employee. Which I am not so with all the free memberships out of the way the only other way to join was to give a five dollar donation to the PTA. Which I did. I just love zooming thought the boxes and not rolling them. Those little counters are great. And one bonus was that if I die my named beneficiary not only gets the amount I have in my account but the bank matches it. They feel this is a good reason for you to keep every single penny you have in their account.

Thanks

Yep I will... If something happened to me he would need the money. LOL

I sold a puppy to day and the woman saw some of my coins and said she had a truck load of silver coins. Said back when silver was up some woman came to her dad and ask him to buy them she needed the money. He paid her $20,000 for them. Bags and bags of Bens, walkers, Barbers, morgans etc etc. She does not know what to do with them. I told her to bring them to me and I would be happy to sort them out for her..... LOL

Wow, that sounds like a T-Net Best story in the making! Please keep up updated on this Cat.

I used to work in a high-end health club 20 years ago that attracted bigwigs from all over Vegas. One of them was the owner of the biggest chain of liquor stores in town that he took over from his father who had it for decades. We became friends and when he eventually found out I collected coins he invited me over his house to pick thru - no kidding - bags and bags of silver coins and wheats, even some currency errors, all that had been taken from circulation over the years! I seeded my Merc dime, Barber and Standing Liberty quarter collections from these visits. And for great prices.

I just know there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who are sitting on hoards of silver like this and have no clue what to do with them.
