Got out with a friend yesterday and these were my keepers. The larger button (?) was/is puzzling to me. At least I think it's a button. It rang up at 77 on my AT Pro. This number/range is usually for large cents, copper pennies, IH pennies, different buttons, musketballs, etc.... It is exactly the size of a large cent and just a rats butthair lighter than a large cent. When it popped out of the ground, both my friend and I thought it was a LC at first. The edges are not the same width all the way around, nor is there any sign it is a coin. My friend thinks it's a button and I can't come up with any other suggestion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It was found at a colonial era site about 5 feet from the Tombac button and 4" down. The dog tag is from 1914. Good shape for it's age...

I did a hot peroxide treatment and still can't get any detail to render it a coin. It is almost IDENTICAL in shape/weight as my Coronet and Braided LC's.

CLICK on pics for bigger/better detail...

Good digs ED!! That dog tag is SICK. Looks to me u got a button, I see a design around the egde. What is the piece with the holes in it, a whizzer? HH

Hi Cuz--nice digs! Looks like a button to me as well.

I don't think it was a button originally unless there is a broken shank on one side--looks homemade, but I don't believe that it was a coin either prior to that due to the ridge that's offset from the edge. Looks like maybe a token or tool tag made into a button. Is there a broken off shank on the other side?

Cool finds, I think the Two Holer whizzer looking thing was a Lg Cent, that was made into a whizzer, or a two hole button, The holes account for the difference in weight...............jmho.............HH

P.S.
The object in your hand kinda looks like a button, is there any indication of a shank on the
other side?.............................HH

NICE! I like the old dog tax tag!

FYI ~ currently the oldest known dog tax tag from Bucks Co. PA is 1907.

Nope no shank busted off on the back. It's too thick to be a tool tag, but thick enough to possibly be a token.

I have had a few others suggest it's a LC made into a Whizzer. Like I said it's almost identical to the Coronet and Braided LC's I find. It rang up the numbers as the other LC's I find. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck.....must be a duck.

The object in my hand is a Tombac. It has a real nice shank. Bad pic angle. Button is in really good shape. 95% of the buttons I find still have the shank attached.

Yes, it's a Tombac button. Real nice shank on the back. Apparently I have a large cent made into a Whizzer.

In the last few months I have found a few older tags 1925, 1934, & 1952. LOTS of dogs around my way in Bucks County. Tons of farm dogs. Most of the ones I find are fairly recent though, within the last 20 years.
