Got out with a friend yesterday and these were my keepers. The larger button (?) was/is puzzling to me. At least I think it's a button. It rang up at 77 on my AT Pro. This number/range is usually for large cents, copper pennies, IH pennies, different buttons, musketballs, etc.... It is exactly the size of a large cent and just a rats butthair lighter than a large cent. When it popped out of the ground, both my friend and I thought it was a LC at first. The edges are not the same width all the way around, nor is there any sign it is a coin. My friend thinks it's a button and I can't come up with any other suggestion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It was found at a colonial era site about 5 feet from the Tombac button and 4" down. The dog tag is from 1914. Good shape for it's age...
I did a hot peroxide treatment and still can't get any detail to render it a coin. It is almost IDENTICAL in shape/weight as my Coronet and Braided LC's.
