That's a really nice one. Wish I could get a hold of some fresh sheds to do some carvings.

Really nice.

We will NOT go quietly into the night!

Thanks old digger, you gotta have moose in your area/or close by don't you?....lost track/count of how many I've given away over the years..along with hides I use to do up/tan myself as well.

wondering if moose racks are made of same material as deer antlers?

It's pretty rare to see any moose in the immediate area, due to the wolves they introduced into Yellowstone. The wolves first decimated the moose population and have now dropped the elk herds to more than half of what they were.

I read about that (don't know how many years ago)...are they (wildlife officers) keeping track of their numbers and behavior?

They do studys by air in Alberta/B.C. just north of your area...where they've found that bears account for over 50% of moose kills, and that's just during spring/calving season...let alone the rest of the year.

Montana Fish &Game has allotted permits, per hunting unit for the harvest of wolves so there is somewhat a balance of wolves vs moose, elk, and deer. And I am quite sure they do studies both by air and on the ground.
Back (mid 1980s) before the introduction of wolves into Yellowstone there were approximately 16000-18000 elk that migrated north out of the park, now your lucky if 5000-7000 are seen migrating north out of the park.
