Only known photo of Pegleg Smith

I've been doing some deep dive research on Pegleg and finding out new info about his life, his son, his wives and his prospecting. This is a photo of an old hotel in San Francisco when he spent his final years drinking his life away. It is such a horrible photo, you cannot make out any of his features but I was assured that he is one of the 4-5 people in this pic. Does anyone know if there's an AI application that will restore some of the imagery? If so, where do I find it and is it free?

Despite what they show in TV crime dramas, you can't restore pixels that aren't there. And an AI can't know what the person should have looked like without at least having another photo as a reference, so it's not going to be any help either.

It may be. There is some who say it isn't, but I've tracked down his grandson's photo and they look very much alike so I happen to think this could be him. What the source of this pic?

I don't know where it originally came from but it appears on the Northern Kentucky Tribune, NBC Palm Springs, and National Oregon/California Trail Center websites among others. Attributions not given.

If I recall, I spent some time a few years ago trying to track down the original source of this pic but was unable to. But I will keep trying.

I looked at old messages and I did fire off emails to the Kentucky Tribune and to Trail Center and neither one was able to tell me what service provided them this photo. Which is strange. All these sites are typically supplied pics from subscription service of some kind and once I can find that out, I can contact that service to get background info on the photo. I can't find that pic on NBC/Palm Spring site but if you find that pic anywhere else, let me know and I'll contact them. Thanks.
