Probably not such an amazing find for some people, but I did find out that this is one of the rarer years (pre '78) which are highly sought after... It's a great find for me because I just started metal detecting recently and my oldest coin so far was a 1912 wheaty from my backyard. Also, this was found in my father-in-law's backyard which was just a farm field back in 1876 (According to the maps). I'm guessing there aren't many more, if any, back there but who knows. Lastly, I think it's in great condition for being in the dirt so long, I pulled it out and it was really caked with dirt so I just threw it in my goodies pocket like it was just another penny.

Not sure what condition it's in, web searches tell me somewhere between good and fine but I'm going to post it on the what's it worth forum to find out more. Unless someone pipes in at this post.

I am waiting to clean it fully because once I found out what it was, I didn't want to mess it up.

I took my time and took a nice semi-macro pic, I usually use my cell but this was worth using the good camera.

I also found a 1970 penny but I didn't think that one deserved a photo in the same post as this... ha ha.

Thanks, not too sure yet, it's still covered in dirt but it looks like it's going to be the same quality from the few plants popping through

Very nice! Detail looks good!

Nice find. It does look to be in nice shape.

Quite nice IHP there, really wanted to find one today, but old coins at this house seem like hens teeth !

BY detail on the word liberty and the feathers it is XF (extra fine) but because of the damage on the edges drops it to G (good) condition... awesome find!

That is exciting! HH

Excellent find!

sent from a potato...

Nice Indian! Be careful cleaning it! If you remove the patina, you remove the detail! Besides, they look much cooler with the patina! Congrats!!

real nice shape considering the date. the copper i pull out of the soil up here is always toasted no matter what the date. HH

Good looking indian, congrats!

Congrats!! :occasion14: Can we see the back of the coin??

If I was to find just two pennies, then that would be one I would love to find. Nice!

Congrats on the nice IH. Probably worth at least 15 or 20 dollars.

Thanks for all the posts everyone, I'm going to try the old soak it in olive oil test. I did run it under water to try to get the dirt off but it's really in there. Once it's all cleaned I'll post a photo of the front and back.
