SHENANDOAH - Borough police are investigating an aggravated assault that occurred in the borough about 12:05 a.m. June 9.
Police said that officers on patrol in the 500 block of West Poplar Street, also known as "Soggy Bottoms," found a man standing in the road bleeding from the head.

The man, identified as Edward Whalen, told officers "Peg Leg hit me with his crutch," police said adding that in referring to Peg Leg Whalen meant Thomas Zimmerman.

While waiting for EMS to arrive police said Ralph Gantz Jr. exited a home in the 500 block of West Poplar Street with burns to his arms.
Gantz told officers that he and Whalen were involved in a physical confrontation that led to Whalen throwing him into a campfire.

Gantz said that he was on fire and that Zimmerman struck Whalen in the face with his crutch to stop the man from keeping him in the fire, police said.

Zimmerman could not be found to get his side of the story, but when Whalen was questioned about the allegations against him, he said, "Yeah, I was justified to throw him into the fire. It was a bush party."
