I'm not sure if this is a button or part of something else. It's 7/8" in diameter, dome shaped and it looks like there was an iron shank inside it at one time. But it might also be part of a two piece button. Found it in a spot that has relics from the 1700's up to the 1930's or so. What do you guys think?

If the dome is high, it could be part of a "ball button"??

Could be, but I'm not positive. Kind of looks like there was a shank in the middle at one time.

My guess would be it's a one piece; as someone else commented there appears to be a remnant of a shank in the middle.

Could it be a large tack

Not a thumb tack, but I was thinking some sort of decoration for horse tack. But I think I'll add it to my button collection. Makes sense to me.
