Looks like a lever that would engage or disengage a fuction ive been looking but can't pinpoint it. How big is it?

I'm pretty sure it's not off a Ford 8N tractor, but if you have an evening with nothing to do - here is a site with diagrams of about every part from a Ford Tractor from the 30's to 1964.

Note that Ford has made everything from Post Hole Diggers to Airplanes over the years.

Here's my unbabied baby - a 1956 640.

The lever part looks like it would have a ratcheting motion? Does it go into the sleeve part at the gears, or is the sleeve completely solid?

I was thinking part of a bumper jack, but lever is too short, and going the wrong direction. I remember someone told me once that the early ford "Horseless carriage" had it so you could easily pull the steering wheel off, get in, and put the steering wheel back on, so perhaps it would have had a clamp like this to lock it on? Just guessing.

Got this off of the wikipedia page for Ford

The Ford oval trademark was first introduced in 1907. The 1928 Model A was the first vehicle to sport an early version of the Ford script in the oval badge. The dark blue background of the oval is known to designers as Pantone 294C. The Ford script is credited to Childe Harold Wills, Ford's first chief engineer and designer. He created a script in 1903 based on the one he used for his business cards. Today, the oval has evolved into a perfect oval with a width-to-height ratio of 8:3. The current Centennial Oval was introduced on June 17, 2003 as part of the 100th anniversary of Ford Motor Company.[15]

Appears to be a centrifugal governor, or spark advance. There was a spring attached between the two arms, you can see the holes. I don't recconize it from the tractors. The later model"B" heavy trucks used governors simular to that. Tony

I have been told that it's a part to a model T Distributor, or what ever it is that they used.

Which is pretty much what Tony said too. Cool piece, not sure if it is solid enough to be made usable again, might make a nice pencil holder for your desk?

I don't think this is part of a distributor myself. I looked at a few online and I haven't seen it there although it does resemble an advance mechanism . I think it is too big for that and if I'm not mistaken, spark advance and retard was done manually with a lever on the steering column.

Please don't use denigrating terms here at TreasureNet. Thanks. was done manually with a lever on the steering column.

Mechanics are not allowed to discuss the workings of the points and condensers. Please refrain from advice that is clearly too technical for us to understand. :evil5: :evil5: :tongue3: It might denigrate us all!

Hey, in an unrelated note, anyone ever read the emoticon :tard:
PC may be running amok.

That's right. To avoid pre-detonation we now say "spark timing is differently ableized to accomidate special combustion chamber needs" and offer counseling for spark plugs that burn hot or have carbon build up. :laughing7:

How could anyone relate that to a handicapped child?

Political Correctness - the belief that one can pick up a turd by the clean end.
