I usually don't go out two days in a row
but, I simply had a hunch about this area
of the mansion. I only had an hour to peruse
the same area I was in yesterday. For me
it was worth the effort.

I caught a fairly good signal betwixt several other
lesser signals. About a penny hit but the signal was
both weak and confusing because of the iron, minerals,
and air interference. Finally, I managed to pinpoint it.

I dug and spread out the dirt to see if I could get some
separation of signals.

Can you see the target?

This help any?

How 'bout this? ;)

A ring!!

Now, I know, not something beautiful coming out of the
ground. But, for me, finding a ring anywhere on land is
a rare thing. (except maybe at a beach).

But, to find a ring here!? Coming from land that traces
back to the 1500's!! After my hunch!? This is a type of
find that I literally dream about! Of course, in my dream it's
inscribed "To Martha from George -1776" LOLOL.

Still, I just love finding a ring that has a potential
of being very old!

Looking at the rest of the finds, it doesn't look like
much of a "walk" :

The center thing reminds me of a reed set up. But, round? :dontknow:

2017 (750).jpg

Part of a cap gun?

2017 (751).jpg

A watch/clock back?

The rest of the pics are just my favorite find. Feel free
to suggest whatever you think about it. Style, type, age?

Some little pieces of information:
Non-magnetic

Only very lightly rinsed at this point.
Appears to have some sort of very light
markings inside.

Not a cheap tin ring, this thing is a pretty
solid chunk of metal.

The front is a mystery to me.

I suspect it's pretty old, but, I know I can be wrong.
I don't have much to test the metal with right now. But,
I will soon. I'm not sure how to proceed with cleaning as
I don't want to maybe lose some very light inscription left
inside.

Sorry about the "much ado about nothing" post. But, these
are absolutely fascinating to me.

Thanks for your patience.

I like the to Martha from George that is very funny. I think like that. Amazing find I wish there was a place like that here ... Good job my friend!! Thanks for always sharing em with us.

Really good stuff. That ring is VERY interesting. Really like that......awesome find!!!

Hi Whadi, think the ring is old brass? white metal? Pewter? I'm sure silver or gold would be no brainers. I would be tempted to scrub it pretty good with toothbrush and potentially scotchbrite mild pad to help bring out more detail and metal quality, but as gentle as possible. Looks really old to me!

Congrats on your ring find Whadi. Good thing you decided to go back.

Congrats on your finds, I also like to find those old rings, hope yours turns out to be something special

Very cool ring, congratulations! :occasion14:

Old rings are COOL rings. I'd rather find a very old ring made out of pot metal than a modern gold ring. Well, maybe a modern silver ring.;D That one does look old. I hope someone with more expertise in old rings can nail it down for you. Great score buddy.:hello2:

I agree with Terry, This may be an old French Jesuit ring! Congrats Whadi. Sub 8-)

UPDATE

He's certainly had a *very* long albeit tough
life! And, yet...still manages to show a bit
of shine from his former glory.

2017 (760).jpg

I gotta say, I am a bit impressed! If he only
could talk! :dontknow:

Anyway, after some gentle persuasion and a little
elbow grease. This is about as well as I'm going to do.

Thought that maybe the ring experts might appreciate
a follow up. Maybe recognize the construction?

The center piece simply crumbled away. Too bad but it
sort of indicates the age to me. How long would it take
for any center to crumble like this?

There *might* have been an etching of some sort, at one time.

In the process of trying to straighten a bit, I noticed that
this metal, whatever it is, is pretty darn sturdy.
I tried a bit of the 10kt acid and the results were strange.
It did make the streak go away, but, very, very slowly!
Maybe 8-9kt? It didn't take much for the shine to come barreling
thru! If it's gold or silver, how long would it take for it to look
the way it did, coming out?

Guess it's another one that we'll never really know.

Thanks for your time. :)

the cross- maybe a pagan symbol for travel(er)?? or maybe a star.... outstanding find regardless ..................

I hope someone knows more about this. I feel like it is something special. Too bad about the cross on the top of the ring. Was it stone?

Hard to tell what it was, crumbled like dirt. :dontknow:

could the ring be from oak island?
was it dropped by blackbeard as he was burying the treasure?
could the one lagina dude not make his beard and hair match?

Awesome ring mystery!
Congrats!

I swear in pic #765 i think i see a 1 & 7, inside the band.

Appears to be very old, and a probably gold mix. Nice!

The shape & style of the band and metal content will be clues as to what the top held. An inset of some type, signet maybe.
Awesome mystery!

Hopefully it was a gift from Martha to George, you never know!

Hey, try viewing it under a black light, see if anything stands out.
