Hey Folks!
Found this classic style Adena pendant in the very early spring of 2006. We had fourteen inches of snowon the ground and a sudden warm front w/lots of rain came in and melted the snow off in about two days. This was found on Jan 16th , 2006. The rain stopped for a while just as I was leaving work so I asked my Dad if he wanted to go out for a while. He thought I was crazy to try and go out in the fields at that time. Might of been the most wet conditions I had ever walked. On the way home from work I stopped off at a farm that has produced a few things for me over the years. The landowner thought I was nuts too. He said he would'nt even be able to get to me w/the john deer if i got stuck! I assured him I would be fine . Put my carharts on and boots on and grabbed the camera. The only spot in this field that produces is about a half mile back and no lane to get there. By the time I got half way back to my spot it started to rain again. Carharts are very heavy when wet. I could'nt walk fast enough to keep from sinking in , every step was work. It had been warm enough to rain (not snow) but it was far from warm out. As I pushed on all I could think was "man Dad was right , I must be nuts". I told myself that I had to salvage something out of this mess I was getting into. So I decided that I would push on to my spot and find one artifact and get the heck out of there. Got to my favorite hill and made one pass and there was the pendant!! I have seen them in the ground like this many times before and only pulled out fragments. As I was trying to take pictures I would sink in the ground so bad that when I would pull myself out the ground and the pendant would move as I walked around it. Pulled it out and it was there! It has quite a few plow scars on it but that does'nt bother me. Not sure how it survived so many strikes from the plow but sure am glad it did. Walking out of that field was the easiest thing I had ever done. I felt light as a feather w/10 lbs of mud on each foot and carharts soaked all the way thru. Got back to the truck and got changed. Showed the landowner and headed for Dads. He still could'nt beleive that I went out. Somedays you just get that feeling and you have to go out regardless of the conditions . I'm sure you have all done it too. Took the pendant to the ASO show in
Columbus, Ohio and won best slate for the state. I have been fortunate to have found alot of nice pieces over the years but this one is one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
