I decided after work to check out a gravel bar and see what popped up after the rain last weekend sometimes I’ll find a Buffalo tooth or something. I started out finding a handful of newer bones
I was happy to have found something I decided to walk the very edge of the gravel bar and made two worthwhile finds.
Judging by the color I’m guessing these are old ones probably ice age which would make them bison. I decided to check the cutbank upstream but got nothing but a little worn out from climbing my way up a 15 foot bank to get out. I went back to the gravel bar and sat down to relax as I was sitting there I saw this
.
I grabbed a stick and started digging
I found a bison vertebrae probably ice age again. This re energized me a bit and I walked the bank some more and came up with two more finds
Second one is a section of upper jaw from either a cow or buffalo I think but the teeth are a little odd. By this point It was getting dark so I headed back. On my way back I was crossing an area where the river takes a short cut when it’s at flood stage. I saw some glass next to a pile of limestone and bent down to pick it up when I noticed a piece of limestone that looked funny. Then I realized it wasn’t limestone
I looked around and a few inches away
And a foot away from that
I tried to look some more but it was just too dark to keep at it
In a few hours I came home with more cool stuff than I have found in the last 6 months combined including 3 nearly intact spear points/knives. It’s a treat to find a broken tool to find 3 like that is just crazy... gotta go back today I’m thinking maybe a cache washed out
